 Southern Highlands District Group

Home

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this continent, never ceded, their grief at loss of country, languages and culture, and their struggle for survival on their own terms.

Especially the Gundungurra and Tharawal peoples, traditional owners of the land where we live today.

 SHAPS MISSION STATEMENT

SHAPS (Southern Highlands Australian Plant Society) is a regional group of Australian Plant Society NSW.

Our mission is to promote the knowledge and appreciation of Australian native plants, particularly  the unique flora of the Southern Highlands.

We are interested in the botanical features of plants, their care and propagation and their place in both gardens, bushland and in the wider environment.

To further these aims we carry out a range of activities:

  • Holding  monthly meetings where knowledge and plants are shared.
  • Organising guest speakers with special expertise to address the group.
  • Visiting local and regional gardens featuring native plantings.
  • Seasonal bushwalking in areas of plant interest and diversity.
  • Liaising with other regional groups and organisations with common interests.
  • Providing advice to Council and community groups regarding native plantings.
  • Propagating plants to sell to members at meetings.

We have newsletters which are accessible on this site.

The images at the top of each page are of Mount Gibraltar in the mist and our adopted flower emblem Grevillea arenaria.
